Welcome to the Big Pine Key web site. Big Pine Key is located in the lower Florida Keys between Marathon and Key West.  Our flotilla is the most active from October to May when tourists and snowbirds arrive to enjoy our sunny skies and warm weather.

Our climate is ideal for boating activities but boaters need to be aware of our shallow water and environmental concerns.  Fines can be heavy for grounding a vessel or otherwise harming the environment.  We are within the jurisdiction of three wildlife sanctuaries.  NOAA, the Key Deer Sanctuary and the White Heron Sanctuary.  It pays to be prudent and educated.  For more information please click on

Safe Boating Classes are held from October to April  see  Boat Classes  for more details.

Flotilla 3 is a small part of a very large organization, over 38,000 members strong from Guam to the Virgin Islands and throughout the United States.  The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the volunteer arm of the Coast Guard.  Boating safety is a primary concern.  We perform safety patrols of near shore waters with our trained crews and coxswains backed up by radio watch standers on shore.  We teach safe boating courses. We also perform complimentary Vessel Safety Checks which can save you money on fines.  Click onto
Vessel Inspections for more information.  In addition, we routinely check on markers and buoys and other navigational aids; distribute safety material to local marinas, and will soon be helping the Coast Guard on pollution patrols.

You are welcome to attend our regular meetings which are held every second Thursday from October to June at the Habitat for Humanity Building on U.S. 1 in Big Pine Key.  Everyone is invited to attend.
