Our climate is ideal for boating activities but boaters need to be aware of our shallow water and environmental concerns. Fines can be heavy for grounding a vessel or otherwise harming the environment. We are within the jurisdiction of three wildlife sanctuaries. NOAA, the Key Deer Sanctuary and the White Heron Sanctuary. It pays to be prudent and educated. The Big Pine Key Flotilla offers Boating Safety Courses from October to April. Boat Classes

Flotilla 3 is a small part of a very large
organization, over 38,000 members strong from Guam to the Virgin Islands
and throughout the United States. The Coast Guard
Auxiliary is the
volunteer arm of the Coast Guard. Boating safety is a primary
concern. We perform safety patrols of near shore waters with our
trained crews and coxswains backed up by radio watch standers on shore.
We teach safe boating courses. We also perform complimentary Vessel
Safety Checks which can save you money on fines. Click onto You are welcome to attend our regular meetings which are held every second Thursday from October to June at the Habitat for Humanity Building on U.S. 1 in Big Pine Key. Everyone is invited to attend.
